Remembering a Not So Civil War

We Need Your Opinion!, Farmer's Market Returns, Plus 34 Events

Good morning, Tolland County Swarm! Today is Tuesday 5/27, and that means it’s National Grape Popsicle Day! I’m not sure what to do with that, but, there it is.

ANYWAY, I’m thinking about creating CONN-OPOLY - a board game based on historic Connecticut, packed with old-school towns, legendary locals, and wild events from the 1700s–1800s. Think vintage etching vibes meets colonial chaos.

Should I make this idea come to life?

HIVE HISTORY PICK

Image: New England Civil War Museum & Research Center

If you’re fascinated or even just a tiny bit curious about Civil War history, then you need to make your way to the New England Civil War Museum & Research Center (14 Park Place, Rockville). Started unofficially in 1896 by Civil War veterans, it finally went mainstream in 1994, giving the public a glimpse at one-of-a-kind artifacts and stories from one of the most important parts of our country’s history.

It’s not a huge space by any means, but it is filled with information you’re not going to readily find anywhere else. They also regularly run special events, which you can check out on their website.

To Co Trivia🤔

Last week’s answer: 31.4% got the answer right, Nathan Hale State Forest was established in 1946 by the State of Connecticut and covers over 1,500 acres, with land initially donated by George Dudley Seymour, a prominent antiquarian and preservationist.
